Easy Last Minute Christmas Home Decor Guide

The last thing anyone wants to do is take on the crowded stores just days before Christmas. That’s why we put together our favorite easy last-minute Christmas home decor ideas, many of which are fun “do it yourself” projects.

You’ve heard of the last-minute shopper, but what about the last-minute decorator? If Christmas day is the 25th and Christmas Eve is the 24th, then the 23rd should be a holiday for us last minute planners. If you’ve found your home lacking in festive decor before the family is due to come over, you’re in the right place.

Christmas Wreaths

The all-inviting Christmas wreath is a staple in holiday home decor. According to TIME, this classic decoration “symbolize(s) eternity, as the shape has no end,” while the evergreen is a symbol “of power, of resilience, and in a way, of hope.”

Its simplicity makes for the perfect last-minute Christmas home decor. Add bells, ribbon or Christmastime citrus for more festive detail.      Christmas Home Decor

These can be turned into a DIY project by starting with your evergreen base. Use floral wire to shape it into a circle or any desired shape. Tie ribbon, add any ornaments, lights, floral details or dried citrus with remaining floral wire.

To make dried citrus you can use oranges and clementines, cutting them into slices. Lay them out on baking sheets with parchment paper and bake them in the oven at 200 degrees Fahrenheit until dried (about four hours). Flip them halfway through.

Dried citrus will come up again in our holiday decor guide. Feel free to make as much as you see fit since this festive decor DIY can be used in multiple ways.

Foliage Christmas Home Decor

Bring the outdoors inside by scavenging for foliage that can be used as holiday home decor.

Drape evergreen over doorframes, mantels and staircases. Add branches of evergreen or cranberries to vases then hang ornaments for a personal touch.Christmas Home Decor

Garlands

Speaking of mantels, now would be a good time to use that extra dried citrus by stringing it into a garland.

Other DIY garlands can be made with felt, paper or other craft supplies you have lying around the house.

Ornaments

Ornaments aren’t just for decorating the Christmas tree. Hang them light fixtures or compile them in decorative bowls and glassware.

Christmas Table Home Decor

Let’s set the table by replacing the classic table runner with an evergreen runner. Candles make for the perfect mood lighting. Choose your preference of candle sticks, candle pillars, tea light candles or a mix of them all.

For the place settings keep things simple with pines of evergreen, cinnamon sticks or cranberries. We also love the idea of a personal homemade treat and the bell name tags.
